Are you performing up to your potential?

This is a question I have posed to athletes from college field houses to major league lockerooms. The common answer to that question is “No.” So, I ask them, what are they doing to do about it?

90% MENTAL

Most athletes are hesitant to look inside the mind as a way to improve performance. It’s really easy to work harder in the weight room. It feels good. The benefits are tangible. It’s really easy to work on mechanics or to look at video. Those activities are needed but they also put more emphasis on the body than the mind….. Athletes need to realize, when it comes to performance, there is a mind/body connection.

What are you going to do about it?

Ninety Percent Mental

I was drawn to Ninety Percent Mental for its baseball roots and quickly discovered it was more than just a unique perspective on the game. I realized Bob Tewksbury’s unique perspective on building and utilizing mental skills and techniques such as imagery, self-awareness and strategic thinking can be used for dealing with everyday pressure, anxiety and change. I recommend this book for baseball fans and non-baseball fans alike who like a good anecdote while also building their own mental skills toolbox.

If there was ever a group of American soldiers who would seem fated to suffer lifelong post-traumatic stress, it was the band of 566 Vietnam veterans who endured brutal mental and physical torment during the Vietnam War in the late 60’s and early 70’s.

Power & Predictability, Part 1

March 7, 2019
In the summer of 1940, one year after the United Kingdom officially entered WWII, German commanders hatched a plot to break the will of the British people. The plan was strategic and simple; every night for 57 consecutive evenings, hundreds of Nazi planes would shower their bombs over London with ultimate goal of a British surrender. While the Nazi bombing ruined the city of London, their plan did nothing to impact the psyche of the people living there. How could this be?
